Something that I have never understood is that
a device like the Pocket PC does not incorporate a high powered database
program. This is even more puzzling when most of these devices have an
operating system produced by Microsoft – the developers of Access.

Now, after testing SprintDB Pro, I have discovered why Microsoft does not
want to produce a new version of Pocket Access: THEY WILL NEVER DO A BETTER
JOB THAN SPRINTDB PRO!

I have tested a lot of database software applications, some are really good.
In some aspects, such as SQL statements, better than SprintDB, but almost
all had some serious disadvantages: speed, request forms, the form elements,
programming, documentation, etc.

Without doubt, SprintDB Pro is the most balanced software that I have
encountered.

The “Sprint” in the application name, is not gratuitous, I assure you.

INTERFACE

This application works perfectly and synchronizes desktop Access databases.

When executing the application, a “Favorites” screen appears, where you can

keep the databases you are working on with their tables, forms and SQL
statements.

You can also create an
Autorun statement to directly open the form you want.

In order to see the
capabilities of this database, I have created a small application with
graphical elements to maintain a database of the pcdemano administrators

In the form it is possible to
resize the combo box, by using its resizing handles. The controls are easy
to locate and there are options to align, adjust, enlarge etc…

A multitude of controls exists like: EditBox, CheckBox, drawing, drop-down
lists, image, editable image fields, and one that I particularly like:
TabControl.

Once you have selected a
control, you can set its properties. You can change the visual aspects, and
where it is placed. You can program some elements like SQL statements or
macros, with a very well
documented and easy language.

You always have the option to enter your program code manually or you can
use the built-in assistants.

You can have a total of five
subforms and five macros, where you can create relationships between
different tables, it’s quite easy.

You can create “Real World” applications. You can also create all kinds of
applications, including the ability to call other applications in your
system. You can also call other created forms, making your work very easy.

Another version of this program – SprintDB Pro + Printing is also available,
this allows you to print all the tables and forms in your applications.

DOCUMENTATION.

This is one of the strong points.
There are different types of documentation:

  • The application’s “help”.

  • A tutorial in HTML format
with three examples of low, medium and high
    difficulty, all step by step.
It is easy to convert these into other formats, Kaione for example, have
successfully converted this into PDF format.

  • And finally, we have lots of
applications developed for SprintDB Pro, where
we can “gut” and learn the programs thoroughly, this is really what helped

    me learn this application.

CONCLUSION

With this great application, it is completely unnecessary to have Pocket
Access. Surely Microsoft could not do better! Its fast, easy to use,
versatile and the documentation is really good.

GOOD THINGS

  • Very Fast.

  • Easy to use.

  • Well Documented

BAD THINGS

  • Could use more powerful SQL Statements.
This is limited by Pocket Access not SprintDB Pro

    Score: 9.5
